Getting a real Christmas tree - do I need a non-drop one, or are the other ones ok?

Try a can of firm hold hairspray before you decorate it , that helps quite a bit.

Every... single... year... I end up saying "Oh... It didn't look quite this big in the shop" as it makes it hard to move around our lounge. :rotfl:

Me too, every year! Ours in a 7ft Nordman fir, we like to put ours up the first weekend in Dec and it always lasts until 6th Jan when we take it down. We keep it well watered. I have had the 'drop' ones before and they did drop - especially if you have children/pets who will knock the tree I would avoid 'drop' trees but if you don't and aren't going to have it up for too long before christmas you may get away with it
  • We always had the drop-type as kids, i remember it shedding needles everytime you knocked it, however, it was always in front of the rad & my parents never bothered to water it once it was up.

We always have a newer non-drop type which does what it says on the can until... you try chucking it out, they leave a lovely trail of needles all throughout the house lol!

So i would say just go for the drop kind, as long as you dont mind hovering underneath it every day as you are still going to have to clear up needles with the other sort anyway. Leave it outside in a big bucket of water overnight before you put it up indoors.

Also I am sure that they sell spray now to help stop the drop:rotfl: I would be wary of using hairspray just because it is flammable
