P800 Cheque query

Hi all,

Got the lovely rebate letter with two pending rebates for 06/07 and 07/08.
It stated a cheque would be send separately and today I got ONE cheque for one of the years.

Do they generally send two out in two different envelopes or...? Only reason asking is while HMRC sent the calculations letter in my full name, the cheque was sent with just my initial and surname. With this in mind, my brother has the same initial and surname.

Doubt he would have taken it but want to make sure that I will get it. May just call them tomorrow unless anyone knows how multiple cheques get sent.

Thanks :- )

They don't send multiple cheques. This from Note 16 on the P800 Notes you have :-
send you a cheque for the amount within 14 days of the date shown on the tax calculation. (If the repayment covers more than one tax year, we will send you one cheque which will cover all the years we have reviewed

It is the final figure on 07/08 that is the net figure you are due. Any under / over payment on 06/07 is adjusted from 07/08?

Thanks for clearing this up. I must have read these sheets a million times but clearly not enough.
I have just noticed on the 07/08 the adjustment from the previous year is shown

Shame but still, £1500 is nice!

Sorry I thought it might be bad news. I was just hoping you were underpaid for 06/07 ........ which would have been nicer!

If it helps - you're far from the first to be bemused.

Actually now that you mention it, I am still bemused :- )
It does state on the 07/08
Less other adjustments ....... £707.80
Tax Payable: 2069.84
Repayment of tax (A minus D) = 1415.08
Plus repayment supplement (where appropriate) 7.70
Repayment due: 1422.78 (the amount the cheque had)

But on the 06/07 sheet, it states tax overpaid : 682.30
Plus repayment supplement (where appropriate) : 25.50
Repayment Due: 707.80

So to me I was underpaid in both years right?

Please correct my confusion once again :)
Thanks again

No - you were overpaid on each year. That's why they're paying interest (supplement) on each of the years.

06/07 Overpaid £682.30
07/08 Overpaid £707.28
Supplement x 2 £33.20

Total ............ £1422.78

I assume you mean I overpaid tax as opposed to I was overpaid given I have a cheque for the £1422.78 instead of a request for it?
