I only flicked through it all... but did you carry on paying anything off the loan or did you just hand a letter to the bank manager asking to stop interest and charges, and then just not pay anything at all for the next 6 years?0

Did the loan payments come out of a current account that you also walked away from? That would explain the two debts. One is the loan itself, the other an overdrawn current account that they continued to take monthly payments from for a bit.
I agree with Tixy's post - prove-it letter, try to get a breakdown of the figures, then seek advice from a free service.
My gut feeling is that they would be open to a full and final settlement deal0 -
as they have been sending the debt about a lot start asking for all the documents they hold on you. you could be very lucky and they may have lost it. anyway its worth a try. in future don't admit it.0
