Cashback - Dumb question ?

I have recently remortgaged - there was a small cashback incentive of £150
However the amount I wish to borrow 62k - has now been increased to £62,150 - and I have cheque for the cashback.
But does this mean I am now making repayments on a £62,150 mortgage - building sociey have asuured me its only 62k - but if the advance is £62,150 - then I haven't received the cashback have I ?
Question 2
In general is cashback 'free money' or is it mostly added to the mortgage ?
