Phoenix Gas Consumption Check

Options
Am hoping someone can help me please! We have a pay-as-you-go gas meter, but I think we are using too much for all we are using the heating, for example I added £10 credit yesterday morning, turned the heating on yesterday at the lowest setting around 2pm and by 9pm the £10 credit had run out. The only other gas which was used in this time was the hob only for 7-8 mins, one ring only. I really think this is too much, at that rate it would be over £300 per month! And yes, I am aware of their price rise earlier in the year etc, but this is a very recent, sudden increase in usage and I just can't justify it all to the colder weather!

Our boiler is due for a service, which I have booked for 3rd Jan (nothing sooner unfortunately), however Phoenix advised I can have a consumption check done if I am concerned at the usage levels, however it is at a cost of £60, which is only refunded if a fault is found. Would be good to hear if anyone else has used this service with any joy.

I would say a definitive fault there.

I wish! No, quite small, new-build, end townhouse. Only 7.5 years old, so not loads of draughts and all double-glazed, other half has re-sealed the windows just to be on the safe side too.

I'm off on maternity leave too so really can't afford this at the minute :(
  • My bill in August for a year heating and cooking with gas was £387!!!! Maybe I have a fault on my system!

Have you considered a leak, perhaps outside?
