Net Operating Loss Carryover from closed S-Corp?

in Cutting tax
My wife and I owned a Hair and Tanning Salon in Illinois which was an S-Corp. We were novice and new nothing. After 1 1/2 we decided to close the business and with our personal debt, had to go bankrupt. The business was not in debt except for lease money owed to stripmall owner that was under our personal names. Which was some need for the bankruptcy. Our CPA showed for 2004 year end, we had a Net Operating Loss from the closed business of $36,000 and said that it would be carried over for up to 10 years. How he explained it, because it was a loss from the business. The CPA said that once I got a job, any taxes that are taken out of my personal earned income from that job will come back to me when I do my taxes, until the $36,000 is paid back to me. He said you will be getting money back for years to come? Wife and I made the mistake the next year 2005 to go to H&R Block and they had no idea what to do with this carryover. We were there 3 hours and error screens kept coming up. This year 2006 went to H&R Block to do taxes and we found out that last year they took the 36,000 carryover NOL and subtracted from my personal earned income of $35,430 and tell me I have like $574 left for my carryover. If anyone understands how this works please explain it to me so I can explain it to them. They have my tax returns from the last 3 years and are still trying to figure it out.? Thanks
