    No, you are wrong.

    And the final wages are not late - there has been an error and only some of the money appears to have been recieved. You have notified them of the discrepancy in payment, which is the correct thing to do.

    Ok thanks, I had heard that it was possible but was unsure of whether it was just an urban myth.
    I will await their reply and then go from there.

    Employers may be sued for quantifiable losses incurred as a result of failure to pay - theoretically. But it seldom happens, and your circumstances are different because they haven't failed to pay. Wait and see what happens - it shouldn't take long to get a reply.
