you dont have to use wine - but if you have some beef stock - or stock cubes and water then that would be fine! add a little more flavour with some onion, carrot and celery and you will have a delightful meal!
No Stock? use as small an amount of water you can get away with -adding the veg as before. But, Season generously.
(I have used Marmite as a substitute for a beef stock cube before! works well but - gravy granules do too- just be careful not to make it tooo thick when starting it off).0 -

Have no idea hun! just recalled a couple of recipes I have seen on Hairy Bikers and Great British Menu - I recall the Bikers said it was like beef only beefier! But for that outlay - I would certainly try SOMETHING!0

arent potatoes a veg like swede, turnip etc? its not mash in itself thats unhealthy - its the butter, cream or milk we add to it!
tho, saying that - I absolutely adore potato and swede mash! mum always served it with sausages and onion gravy - I used to give the sausages to dad and bro and just have the mash and gravy!0 -
I buy ox cheeks regularly from mr w
Favourite dish to make is ox cheek madras
Chop up ox cheek, onions , carrots and mushrooms or whatever veg you have put it all in the slow cooker with curry powder or paste and tinned tomatoes or passata and chickpeas if you have any. Stir in a teaspoon of marmite or put in stock cube. Turn on slow cooker and come back 8 hours later to a yummy dinner
Also makes the best chunky chilli ever , just sub the curry powder for chilli and add kidney beansStarted my own business and loving being my own boss

i think its lower carbs which im not really meant ot have as much of as i have tummy troubles so im trying to make things slightly different, so my son and oh get to try different veg too without knowing
i heard somewhere that a cup of potatoes have 35g of carbs but a cup of swede is 8g and a parsnip is 17g? my figures maybe slightly out but i think i will try once a week to make swede mash and turnip and see how it goes down??
plus i think it will taste nicer than normal mash, dont ever put alot of butter in and i only use 1% fat milk.
If i like it il grab it again when on offer and make a chilli next time and see how we get on, quit looking forward to cooking tomorrow now......something new/different on the table, as far as oh and son will know its just beef casserole lolDs2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

wow - learn something new every day! so potatoes are carb central! lol.
I also love cauli and potato mash - about two thirds cauli to one of potato! but then, I love cauli.
I believe that sweet potatoes are lower in carb and also higher in vitamins etc - I love those roasted but they do make a nice puree - if you want to have them as mash I find adding a normal white potato makes the mash firmer and less 'sweet'.
it may have taken time, but I think I now get where you 'are coming from'!0
