Hi, put the dates you worked there and what job you did. Say that you would like to return because of X . X is going to be connected to why you resigned in the first place.

was temp job - although I only worked for your company for a brief period, in that time I was happy and liked the company's progressive thinking (or stability, or whatever)

left for better job - I enjoyed my time with your company and now I have expanded my experience through working for other employers, I would bring a broader perspective to the role.

You do need to put some vaguely sensible reasoning (reasoning will depend on the job level of course) otherwise people will think, ah yes, he left, why does he want to come back? Does he just want a five minute fix before his next job? Did he get sacked from his most recent one? Did he hate it? Has he moved house? Etc.

the main reason i left was because i was overlooked for a full time position which would have meant being a supervisor, thanks for your help CFC

    ps

i wont say i left due to being overlooked, ill say it was due to money reasons and for a change

I personally couldn't return to a previous employer if I had left. The only reason for leaving is to better myself and returning to a former workplace I would see as a failure unless it was returning to run the company.

If it was a temporary position and the term finished then that is different and maybe a part time position before and return for a full time position as that is an improvement which I think is what your case sounds like.

Firstly I would see if any of your old workmates know of any vacancies most companies advertise internally before making them public (maybe not in your case after the last time?), if not then make a phone call it can be more anonymous than writing. If that fails then write I would probably leave out anything to do with working their before as it could sway any decisions in to letting you know anything especially if they dint like you the last time. It just give you a better chance of being given an interview I think you can then go in to the details face to face and judge from their reaction how to take things further. You should never tell them everything in the application or your CV, they won't want to see you or ask you any further questions if they know everything about you.
