Halifax Mortgage Refund

Yesterday I received a letter from the Halifax (have had mortgage with them since 2003), to say they have refunded my mortgage account £540 plus £96.70 in intrest sie to a difference between their SVR rate and the Bank of England Base rate.
I considered questioning them a couple of years back when it was brought to light that many mortgage lenders had been charging more than the base rate, but decided against it as I've always had a fixed rate for my mortgage. However I think this refund must be linked to a 2nd advance on my mortgage taken out in 2005 which is charged at their SVR.
Now obvously this is a lovely surprise, but doesn't change my mortgage repayments and overall will only see me paying off my mortgage a month earlier. I would have much preferred this refund paid back directly to me. Now that they have refunded, without me being aware that I was owed it am I within my rights to ask that they refund me directly rather than credit my mortgage account. I know it's cheeky but it's worth checking. Many thanks.
