    Will try connections thankyou.

Sadly no she couldn't live with us. She could possibly stay on sofa temporary if needed though, that wouldn't be fair dh gets up for 4am for work have to walk through living room all open planned When her mum is home she tends to stay at her friends home (who lives with parents like all her friends do). This just cant go on.

Volunteering sounds good but she needs some money coming in. I helped her with shopping this week dad before but we can't anymore :-(.

You say 'I have taken her into every shop/business we can think of'. Do you mean you are actually accompanying her in there and doing the asking? As an employer I wouldn't be too impressed if an 18 year old needs somebody else to do the asking. Be careful your presence isn't giving a negative impression of her.

  • Going to her local connections is a great idea, they really try and help as well as meeting others in simular position. Give them a ring or vist them today, and well done for being so supportive.

What does your niece want to do ?

What skills / training does she have ? - what is she doing to move towards her goals ?

Has she considered a job in the Army / Navy / Air Force ?

The jobs available are not all "front line" - I used to work with a girl who joined the RAF to work in the stores. This offered a job, acommodation, life experience, training, support, confidence building etc.

Hell noo. I just drive her, and give her ideas and the courage to go in and ask, she does not need any more encouraging now, she is on the ball.

She wants to work in tourism, she going to college for it next september, and there are a few courses coming up in jan she will do, hence only needing a part time job, some money coming in for her to survive, she has to put elec/gas in and buy food.

She will do anything at the moment, she even thinking of kleneze/avon but that would be quite difficult due to her not having a car, and the money would not be enough for her.

She has even advertised on gum tree for any babysitting, fingers crossed..

£2.50 must be an apprenticeship rate - which should be £2.60 anyway.

At 18 she should surely be able to get casual work at least over Christmas at NMW level.
Yes, NMW for 18yo is £4.98

OP, if she is not an apprentice (which indeed is now £2.60/hr) she has been working for (almost) less than half the NMW. Contact HMRC NMW enforcement to make a complaint about it.

Her assessor knew what she was on, perhaps it was some kind of a apprentice, I will ask her tomorrow. I do know she was only there for a 3 mnth probation.

From 16-18 she was working in a pub now and then when she needed, and she took time from studying due her stress she was getting from her mother, she has had it hard fair doos. Sadly pub no longer need any casual staff, they have permanent now.

She just text me to tell me she had interview today for a job she applied for Monday, and she starts a trial shift tomorrow. Fingers crossed it goes well for her..

I was just wondering where she has slept previously if her mother only has a one-bed place? Has she left home before and mum downsized?

I wish her luck in finding a job as it is difficult. I have an 18 year old daughter who managed to find work quite quickly luckily and she is hoping to go to college next year. Just to bear in mind that my daughter was told she might have to pay for college next year as she will be 19 by then and also depending upon the course she chooses so she is having to save money just in case.
