    Could you not leave it another year and apply again after you have been here for three years? The rate you've been quoted is very high for someone with a record of paying their debts and no defaults.
    I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

    Not necessarily. I got offered a £5000 loan at 8.6% from Santander but didn't take it in the end
