By paying off that £50, you've just given yourselves a pay rise of £1.46 a month.
  • I know what you mean about take-aways. It's always the easy option when you've been out and nothing is cooked.

We are trying to limit it to once a week, have been good with this for the last few weeks.

As for KFC and Maccies, have not been for many years now. After reading about the nutritional value (lack of) of these meals, has put me off for life.

I just got a text asking if we've got money for petrol  I didn't even think about petrol because when I drove the car yesterday it looked like there was a good quarter of a tank. I've kept back a tiny bit in the joint account so I've told OH he can put £10 and no more.

Gah I hate waiting for things to clear. I don't understand why it takes so long!

Transferred money has cleared. I feel a bit weird concealing that I've already paid £50, but if I tell him then he'll definitely want to spend the £50 that's transferred. Gah I'm struggling with the morals here! The right thing to do is to pay another £50. The right thing to do is to tell the truth. Gah.

    So, £50. I could:

    1) Phone Halifax and get £50 knocked off my overdraft limit. This is largely symbolic though because it won't reduce the fees. My overdraft costs £1 a day for planned overdrafts over £300, and I'm currently running at a long way over £300.

    2) Pay £50 towards OH's credit card. The APR is 35%. They want £50 from him this week, to reach the account by Friday. I have already transferred money to cover it, however it won't clear in the current account until Wed/Thur. I suspect this might be a bit slow for Capital One and if the payment doesn't hit their system until Monday, he might incur more charges.

    3) Give it to me? lol

    Worth a try, eh??

    Haha Blushing Rose nice try!!

I've told OH the money has cleared for him to pay Capital One. He wants to pay them over the phone... I just hope that they don't tell him £50 has already been paid.

He paid them too and they didn't mention the £50 they got yesterday :) I can't wait for the next batch of statements so I can see how we're doing!

I should try a 'trying to blag money from unsuspecting posters' thread. Do you think it'll catch on?

Glad to hear that Capital One didn't let slip about the extra payment.
