does anyone have any idea what john lewis policy is if you but something and then it goes down in the sale?
we want to buy a bed but don't want to find that it gets reduced in new year sales.
i know i could call john lewis but wanted to check here first.
thanks...

i think they would call it tough luck the only way you may get something is if you found it cheaper under the price guarnetee, surely worth waiting for the sales is it not they are starting earlier this year worse case you have to wait christmas eve to order online or go into a store on boxing day. why not go look now at what you want then have a look online see what you can pick it up with google shopping and see if can turn the screws?0

We have used their price guarantee on several occasions & had no probs. We bought a dishwasher from JL for £499. They then reduced it 2wks later to £408, we called them up & the £91 difference was refunded to our card without any probs.
As far as I know you have 28 days after purchase & if you see the item elsewhere cheaper (that excludes online-only or mail order businesses such as Dixons, Amazon or Play.com, who don’t have shops) or they reduce it themselves they will refund the difference.

thanks for your replies, my wife phoned John Lewis today and was told that they don't refund difference in that situation. don't think that there's hard and fast rules on this - they probably just use their discretion.
moneysaver: please could you tell us roughly how long ago you was given refund?

It was about 3mths ago. We have done it with a few items in the last 12mths & never had any probs.
I suppose it might be different if the item is in a sale. Our items were not in a sale but were reduced before the 28 days were up.

I've made a couple of claims under the John Lewis "Never Knowingly Undersold" guarantee.
it states:"So, if you see or buy a product from us and find it cheaper with a high street competitor (that excludes online-only or mail order businesses such as Dixons, Amazon or Play.com, who don’t have shops), as long as their service conditions are comparable, such as delivery charges and guarantee terms, then we´ll match that price for you when you buy, or refund the difference for up to 28 days afterwards if you´ve already purchased."So effectively, they will give you a refund if you previously purchased an item from them in the last 28 days.
My last experience was when I purchased a PVR from them last week (before christmas) at £359 and noticed on Saturday in another JL store that it was £249. They refunded me the difference straight away without the slightest of quibble.
In fact, I have previously overheard a JL salesperson recommending that the cutomer claims back the difference if the price goes down after a sale!0
