Santander Topup Loan - Acceptance by phone.. Rejection by letter..!?

Hi,

Have had a loan of £1500 with Santander since May 2011, have made 7 payments of £75 without issue. I phones Santander to apply for a "topup" of my existing loan, to cover the costs of various motoring issues and christmas, aswella s to consolidate existing debts. This was last Wednesday (30/11)

I spent about 15 minutes on the phone going through the application (for £1000), and was accepted. I was given all the legal spiel, was taken through my first payment due date, and told my existing loan would be settled (and replaced with this one) once the contracts were signed and received. I was told the contracts were being posted out the next day, and that my new monthly payment was approx £10 more, over a slightly longer term.

I've today received a generic refusal letter, stating that my application for a loan had been refused, dated the 30/11/11.

I'm utterly confused, and I've already accounted for the money too, meaning I'm a bit stuck if this loan is refused. I've phoned Santander but the department I needed to speak to was closed at this time of night - great. I'll call them tomorrow.

Any ideas anyone!?

Why did you account for stuff when you didnt have a response in writing. Maybe post a soa on the DFW board, eat frugally eg beans on toast for a few weeks or a month maybe.

I thought it was all sorted from how she was speaking - lesson learnt. That said, I am considering selling my car as it's very much a luxury item at the moment, I certainly don't NEED it.

They obviously had a better look at your circumstances and decided it was a non starter...loads of companies do this, Barclaycard accept people and then reject them, Natwest have the legendary AVU etc etc

They probably couldn't be a r s e d setting up a loan for such a small amount. For £1000 couldn't you use your credit card?
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
