I once applied for a prt-time job at the Asda just around the corner from me. I was seriously messed around just trying to get an application form. It really was an atrocious mix up from start to finish. Part way through the process I pulled out because I reckoned that if they messed someone about that badly before they even worked for them, I wouldn't have lasted five minutes anyway.
I'm not one to suffer fools gladly - even when the fool is me. I just knocked on a few houses and got a bit more window cleaning work instead.0 -

There is not one thing in my supermarket basket I couldn't live w/o, if I thought bread or milk were too pricey I would walk away and eat something else that week.
Pretty much how I do things. I pretty much live on supermarket basic brands and reduced price perishables that are going out of date very soon.
With three supermarkets within walking distance, I don't even need to buy diesel to do it.
I've just had breakfast of Tesco "value" porridge sweetened with apple that my neighbour gave to me. Not sure how much the gas cost to heat it but it was only on briefly.

The loss on clubcard points are particularly bad for those who used them to buy train tickets via RedSpottedHanky.
A couple of months back you would get 6p worth of tickets for every pound spent.
Now, with only 1 point per pound spent and the multiplier reduced from 3 to 2 you only get 2p worth.
So the rewards are 1/3 or what they were.
Of course, it was an extremely generous offer in the first place and I could never work out who was actually paying for it.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
No surprise there. I worked for a while for Tesco, doing what they called File Maintenance Control (FMC). The main part of the job was making sure the prices on the shelf edges were correct and that items went through the tills at the correct price.
Plugged the Telxon(?) into the computer and there was always a sharp intake of breath as the dot-matrix printer fired up. 10 pages on fan-fold paper of corrections. Gulp.0 -
Tesco said the £80 basket for Mysupermarket customers was very high! I wish my weekly shop was that low - we need two trolleys!
And the Big Price Drop was always going to be a con - balloon pricing still happens all the time, and they put prices up and down every few days to prevent customers getting used to the "normal" price. That way they can get away with longer term price rises without you realising it (e.g. 90p, £1.10, 92p, £1.02, 94p, moving to £2 BOGOF - net result a long term price rise from 90p to £1.00 per item).
The best comparison I can do is just look at our weekly shop costs over the past couple of years - it used to be £150-£160 but now is rarely less than £190, and we don't eat or drink any differently than we did a couple of years ago.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
I did a shop at tesco this morning and presented My sainsburys £4.50 off a £30 shop voucher and was told that they no longer take sainsburys vouchers !
Another way of clawing savings back.:(0 -
My local corner shop sells stuff at a fraction of the price of the big supermarkets, 3 big bunches of coriander for £1 (supermarkets are what, 90p a bunch) and 5 peppers for £1 when supermarkets are normally 3 for £1 on a good day.
They may have no advertising budget and only one branch but often the local places are as good or in this case much better as T*sscos and they could probably do with the money more (no clubcard points though)

Absolute rubbish! If anything, you're encouraged to join a Union, in the UK, at least!
You're not exactly encouraged just informed the GMB is there, they don't recognise the unions representing anyone in management though at all, normal colleagues can apply to pay the union fees via their wages, management have to pay via direct debit so the company doesn't know they are part of the GMB and tend to use the unions for 'advice' rather than direct intervention in things unless its really needed.0 -
