I can't believe throughout all of history no-one but my son has ever stepped on a slug on a wool carpet/rug, but apparently google can't help, or I'm just not wording the query right. Can anyone here?
I came down this morning to find squashed slug innards all over new wool rug.
the remains were gloopy and starting to dry and i've picked off what I can (ughh-shudder), but there's a stain: water won't remove it, water plus soap won't remove it, what do I try next that won't strip the wool of any natural protection but will get rid of slug innard-stains.....?

I don't know if this will help, but I find slug slime easier to remove from hands by using salt to scrub as well as soap, so I'm wondering if salty water would help to remove the grisly remains?
Failing that I'd treat as for protein stains

Goodness knows what slugs are made of! I trod on one wearing only white cotton socks a few weeks ago and despite putting the socks through the wash several times the stains just won't come out.
Good luck, but I think I would be tempted to claim on my home insurance for a new rug!Thank-you to everyone who posts comps :beer:0 -
I would suggest salt too, and gently rub with something like an old toothbrush, let it dry and then brush it off with a cleab brush and hoover.
I see on ehow that to remove slug mucus from carpets and fabric they suggest soaking in white wine, leave to seep in sponge off and then wash in warm soapy waterEvery days a School day!0 -
Thank you!
I'm going to try salt first before opening a bottle of wine - (already have abottle of red open, and they do seem to "evaporate" once I've removed that cork LOL):AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
This thread has made me smile, and reminded me of a 'game' my two played (briefly!) when they were toddlers. It was called 'Stamp' and involved a slug, a welly and the (lino!) utility room floor. Revolting, and very quickly stopped. By me.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

Made me smile too . Few years ago I trod on a slug barefoot and it squished through my toes it was a warm day and before I could reach the hosepipe the dog was having a taste!0
