Apparently not.I think the point of black ice, is that you don't know it's there........ I got to work this morning and everyone was like "what ice?".
Did you sleep betwen posts? They are of course going end up sideways and the rest of us are going to end up slamming into the side of them!!!
If you hit black ice, the best thing to do is to remain calm, DON'T brake and make only small adjustments to the steering to keep the car straight!Strider590 wrote: »When the car in front goes sideway of on ice, there's not a lot you can do other than hope they fall into a ditch before you hit them.... Braking will only see the same thing happen to yourself.
.
so if the car infront hits black ice, don't brake just keep driving and hope they go into a ditch. If they don't go into a ditch, just happily drive into them and the car behind you can plough into you.... seeing as you weren't slowing down0 -
Oh !!!!!!, it was a figure of speech...... If that's not obvious to you, then you either take things too literally or your just being pedantic. The later is probably true......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Only strider could come up with a gem like this...0 -
I remember a number of years ago (no ABS in those days) hitting a patch of black ice (water from a field) and all I can remember thinking is (of the guy in front) please don't brake, please don't brake. Needless to say the brake lights came on and he was spinning down the road I tried to squeeze down one side but he clipped me. The guy in behind stopped but the guy behind him rolled his car.
There really isn't much you can do except try and avoid the brakes if possible.0 -

My words exactly at 8:15 this morning.....“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The car that skidded the 360degrees in front of me was driven by an 18yo girl, whose dad had given her his bigger car rather than her Clio to drive as she was going out of town and he thought she'd be safer. They had the nerve to send me a solicitors letter blaming me for the accident! I was the 3rd out of 5 cars. Turned out she was only insured 3rd party for her dad's car. I phoned my insurance, and wrote the girl's solicitor a letter and my insurance told me to forward a copy of the letter to them. I never heard anything back from her and my insurance only paid out for my car. Talk about trying it on!0

It's not irresponsible. You have the answer. Educate people what the safe braking distance is when there is ice.0 -

At 40mph the following distance is what? 150ft? (giving a nice generous 3s gap as you should in wet conditions) it's said that in ice you need 10x that distance, so that's 1500ft. Do you expect anyone to drive 1/4 of a mile away from the car in front, when they're unaware of any ice on the roads during rush hour traffic at 8am?
I think the distance argument is mute in these conditions, the key is driver education in how to handle the conditions correctly.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I would like to than the bell end who tail-gated me down the eastbound north off ramp at townhead M8 late last night for reminding me why I used to like Germany's drivers better than ours when I lived there.
I wonder if he even noticed the ice under us. Also I wonder if he has ever seen the end result of a small froggie hatchback running into the back of a big estate like a V70?
Is it too late to nominate him for yesterdays king of the knobbers? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
