Something boring and mainstream and reliable.
Personally I'd recommend taking a look at the Skodas, since they are VAG group without the extra expense. They even have a certain wink wink cool to themselves too.
Then again, Toyota/Nissan/Honda are great for reliability.
You can still have driving pleasure whatever you choose.Happy chappy0 -
i have been looking at Skoda as my (incredibly tight fisted, ahem i mean cautious spending) brother has a Fabia VRS. Actually not as bad as i thought they were . Cant afford one of them but a little 1.4 would do fine. Also looking at Seat as basically same as also VAG.
I'll get eye strain earchin tomorrow and looka t weekend at what i can do.
thaks all for you help!
If any further pearls of wisdm are offered though i will listen!!!0 -
A friend of mine has got a 1.4 Fabia and I've been pretty impressed with the internal trim etc. He says it's cheap to run.Happy chappy0

Is this any help?
Part exchange your Saab with a dealer and add £1000 using your 0% credit card. That way you relieve yourself of the burden of selling it yourself (and the advertising costs) and you should get 12 months warranty on your replacement.
If you are doing 150 business miles a week at £0.40p per mile (£240 per month) this should more than cover the cost of paying off the credit card before the 0% runs out.
A good 1.8 mid size car, Vectra, Mondeo etc will give you the required comfort, a decent appearance for business purposes, reasonable insurance and running costs and most of the performance you have been used to. It is also an ample size car for family purposes.
Stay away from auctions unless you really know what you are doing otherwise you are just buying someone else's problems with absolutely no recourse on the auction if the engine falls out at the end of the street.
Remember, auction warranty is 5 minutes or 500 yards - whichever comes first. I can tell you are agonising over parting with, what is, a decent car and it is natural that you don't want to be seen to be trading down. This may be a resonable compromise. You can also buy 'personal plates' from the DVLA from as little as £250 (inc transfer fee) to remove the date from the car as well. Hope this helps.Money won't buy you happiness
But at least you can be miserable in comfort

that is pretty much exactly what i am looking to try and do! i also have about £500 in claims owed to me which i have been keeping until i decide what to do so even less would need to go on credit card.
I was looking at a small car but then a mondeo is smaller than the saab, in cost terms anyway and thats important. If i could get a mondeo or focus type of car then i would be happy. As would my bank account.
thanks a lot. If you are on the same wave length it re-assures me somewhat i am not totally stupid thinking that!0
