How easy is it for someone to get away with fake references?
I mean how many companies check the company even exist? It's not hard to set up.a virtual office . Company name, in order to cover a dodgy past and get a good job!!
Anyone here in hr here ? Most companies just phone or write. What do you think??
Now external getting companies are a different kettle of fish......

it probably depends on the area you live and the area of work you are in. if your in a small town they are liekly to know the company doesnt exist, if your in a particular market they'll know all their competitors.Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

I work in finance & I check every company I have not heard of (Companies house). That said though I am very thorough, I ask for proof of every employment break etc.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth

What you are proposing is a criminal offence as you are attempting to obtain a financial advantage (i.e. a job) by deception.
About the only way I can think of doing this legally (although not ethically!) would be if you and a friend had formed a limited company some years ago that didn't trade but filed the correct paperwork. Providing you were careful one could then write the other a reference saying something like "XX has been a director of this company for yy years and has performed his duties to my complete satisfaction".
However, in the real world.......0 -
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

The willingness of people to help you commit fraud.
Personally I am not willimg so I won't be revealing how we check out prospective employees and what the results of the checks look like.Debt free 4th April 2007.

I reckon that any companies planning to employ someone called Phil from Nottinghamshire might take extra care in checking references!0

Every organisation I have worked for has checked my references. It's a fairly close-knit profession so any organisation/business that no one had heard of would ring alarm bells. Everyone has contacts all over the place so it would definitely be found out.
Faking references just seems a lot of hassle with a very high chance of failure.0
