Dilemma help appreciated

Hi,

Quick question and have some ideas on how to approach this but wanted other people's views too..

I've applied for plenty jobs lately, and seem to be getting a lot of interviews. What I'm worried about though is if one firm offers me a job, and the other ones (which may or may not be more appealing) are still half-way through the recruitment process?

Case in point: One company is informing me on Wednesday whether I have been sucessful or not.

It's £17k for long hours and I'd be happy doing it, but I'm in with a shout of five other jobs.

They've all told me the process could take a good few weeks.

Would it be unprofessional to take the first job offered, and still go to the other 5 interviews?

How long could I realistically put off making a decision, should they offer me a role on Wed?

The five other jobs pretty much ALL sound better than this one, but wouldn't want to chance my luck, as the job I'm in is COMPLETELY dead end and mind numbingly boring.

Thanks for your help

  • If it were me, I'd accept the first job, but keep going for the other interviews and see how you get on. I "recruit and select" on a regular basis, and get used to people backing out of jobs before they start, yes it's a nightmare, but I'd rather someone do this before they are x amount of weeks into the job, and have invested time and effort in the training.....

It's a tough decision, but at the end of the day your at work a long time, and you need to be happy and content in the job your doing, and as a manager I'd rather my staff be in a job they are happy in.

No of course it wouldn't - if it were then nobody would ever change jobs. Accept what you have at the time you have it. If things change, then make a decision based on the situation at that time.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Thanks for your kind words! I have a clear conscience now!

Think the other worry was what it would look like on my CV. If I'd had a job and worked for 2 weeks before leaving it?

It would look awful. So you leave it off!

    Fair enough

I could fall down if they check dates of employment with previous employers though no?

And if I get the job on Wednesday and I still attend these other interviews... do I tell them I've accepted a job offer?

Only if you put wrong dates for the jobs you do put down.
