How long do Recruitment Agencies 'own' you for?

As far as I know, both from the answers on here and my personal experience, it's the company who have the contract with the agency, not you, so there is nothing stopping you from going direct as any issues over the your employment will be dealt with between the agency and the company who (hopefully!) employ you. If the agency wasn't straight with you or the company hiring, then they can sort that out between themselves if it becomes an issue and the company should have a record of whether they have seen our CV before from this agency.

Huh, recalling all the apathetic - and often downright horrible - experiences I have had with these agencies over the years, I would have thought that wanting to "own" a jobseeker would be the last thing on their minds!
