Hi
I have an interview tomorrow with the local council.
I feel that i am preparing well for it. However i have been in my current job for 8 years and this is my first interview and i have never been asked any questions about equal opportunities which is sure to come up.
I have searched here but can not find any examples.
Does any one have any idea what kind of question they might ask me?
Thanks in advance

Hi Demy,
Don't worry, I know how you feel, I recently went for a council interview and I know it does feel daunting as I too haven't been to a interview in the last 4 years. But as someone else on this forum said to me is that you've impressed them with your application hence the interview! So the interview is a chance for you to shine and show your personality and back up your application.
From my own experience, I was not asked Equality Issue questions however I did research into the councils equality statement just in case. I guess it may depend what role you are being interviewed for, in my case, where it was in IT, I was generally asked technical questions all the way through.
Maybe have a search on the council website and swot up on their equality statements and take a not of their stats etc. Or if they do not have these available to you, maybe it would be a good question to ask at the end?
Most of all, good luck!0 -
Are you applying for a post where you think this will be an issue?
I have never asked anyone equality questions and I have been interviewing folk for 10 years. I employ people solely on their ability to do a job, or their potential to do that job. As boosas says, visit the council website and find out what their statement on equality is. then I am sure you will be covered.
And good luckWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
HI there
Why do you think it will come up? If it's relevant to the job then you need to understand their equal opps policy and say how you would apply it in your role.
However I had an interview at my local council last year and they didn't ask about equal opps, just about the job I was going for.

I was told that the question might arise by someone else.
The position is Payroll / Accounts Officer.
Thank you for all your replies, it is much appreciated.
