Crisps Mortgage Free Quest

Hi everyone,

Having been an occasional lurker of this fab site for the past couple of years, I have finally gotten round to registering.

I have been over paying where possible on my current mortgage, sometimes £30, somethimes £1000 - currently owing just short of £45k. Were up for renewal May 2015, however, I really want to clear it by then, or at least get it down to £10k.

I'm hoping this forum will give me more oomph to get stuck in, plan OP's and post my amounts etc....

Anyway, new user, be patient with me :)

Many thanks

  • Hi,

Welcome and good luck on your MFW journey.

    ^dk^
  • Oh well, I managed an OP of £1056.55 this week :j, giving me an overall mortgage debt of £43,648.99 to date. I will try to squeeze another OP by Crimbo - I will also update (or even create) a signature with details.

I think once I get under that 40k mark I will be eager to get to 30.

Welcome and good luck!! You're in the right place to share you MFW status!
  • Happy New Year all. Such a busy December....I must get my signature and details created/updated.

My up to date mortgage balance as of today is £43,410.88p. :)

I did intend to OP at Christmas £150, from which I had earnt it Nectar points (Use points for shopping, then deduct total from actual shopping money budget). So that is in the bank ready... On my last OP, the Halifax told me I am nearing my OP limit, and should wait until Feb before making any further OP's due to their '12 month scanning' of payments.

Generally, Christmas was good money wise, as I have not actually touched my wages as we bought all present's and some of the 'Christmas cupboard' stocks through the year in prep.

I'm looking to make an OP in Feb of at least one thou - fingers crossed, let's just battle through miserable Jan.

Hope all is well out there in MFW land.

    :)
  • I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by - and how I have not maintained my thread - Sorry :(

Well, I have made regular over payments to my mortgage - and my up to date figure left is now - £36,199.96.

I am hoping to OP £400/£500 towards the end of Dec, so with the monthly usual payment - I should end up with £35.5k....

This year I have been de cluttering a lot, using ebay etc, and even moving bits and bobs on facebook - every penny counts.

The one thing that surprised me was when I had a DVD clearout the other month, I didn't realise just how many we had, and 95%
were viewed once only - but therefore mint + ideal for ebay (All on 99p starters - most sold for between 99p up to £6)...

Anyway, I hope everyone on here is well, and hitting their targets :T

I must keep this thread up to date, I must.....

    Merry Christmas all.

Hi Crisps - don't worry about updating your diary - if it helps you, great. If (as it seems), you're making good progress without it - don't beat yourself up :)

Some of us (myself included) use our diaries to keep us on the straight and narrow. If I'm not on here, I don't *always* have the self control to stick to my financial goals. It sounds like this isn't a problem for you :T
  • Morning all...

After a quiet relaxing few days I need to do something to assist my m.free goal.So I will be sorting through the wardrobe - and putting aside (hopefully) music related t shirts that I can put on ebay - as there is a free listing offer on at the mo, and a very large collection that needs sorting....

Anyway, hope you all had great Christmas breaks....Time to look at 2013
and see where we can chip more off the mortgage block :)

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    YYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Good evening everyone, I am an awful MSE user, as I hardly ever posted, but I have followed and read all of your adventures and exploits.

I HAVE TODAY MADE MY LAST PAYMENT / CLEARED MY MORTGAGE!!

I have basically saved as much as possible since 2011 - without completely going without - but kind of have... :/

This sounds funny for a 6ft tattooed bearded rocker, but when H**ifax said to me on the phone "Congratulations Sir..." my eyes filled with tears...It has been a long tough journey, but that dedication, overpayments of whether they were £10 or £100, and the support from my beautiful and inspirational wife - it has worked......

    Tips,

    1) Stick to your guns
    2) Do everything you can to help, yougov's, miss nights out, do a car boot a cpl f times a year, overtime at work that does not affect home
life too much...Pick up that 1p coin you see on the floor and put it in a tin until it makes a £1's worth.
    3) Ebaying anything that moves :)
    4) Dreaming of that one day it is all done and dusted.
    5) Breath, have a cup of tea.

Goodbye thread - and good luck to everyone.

    :)
