If you accept that some agencies will treat you like a commodity and nothing more, then you'll be Ok.0

Depends what work your after as to which agency you go to, a friend of mine has been with an agency called Go New Recruitment(not sure if its a nationwide agency) for a good few months and he has had some crap jobs but hes had some good jobs. Agencies are beter face to face.0

Websites are one thing and face-to-face contact with someone who has an understanding of who you are and what you can do is another.0

As well as going through agencies you should also register with Monster and Total Jobs as a lot of employers advertise on these directly rather than go through an agency.0

if you are only looking for one website you are doing it wrong.

where are you based? we'll be able to direct you to some good agencies if you let us know. Like in Leeds I can say Robert Half International near the Hilton Hotel, taskmaster and i think key was another good one. But it depends where you are. If you do live in Leeds I know that Leeds Uni is looking for bar staff if you have done bar work previously, just depends where you are in the country:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

I've yet to find a good one. Most simply advertise jobs that don't exist time and time again just to get you to register on their books. That way when they have a commision paying placement come their way they have more candidates to try and put forward.
Don't believe me? - Look on totaljobs.com and look at how many jobs are repeated on one page after another by the same companies. If you go as far as to sign up to be emailed those results you'll see that those same jobs are on their books for years in some cases. I put this recently to one of our local agencies and said I'd be taking it up with my MP because they're suggesting there is more work than there really is. The next day 3 of their jobs vanished and I've not seen them advertised again since.0 -
Unless you have a specialist skills or qualifications, I wouldn't bother with job agency websites (with the exception of sites like monster) and I would make a list of what sort of work you think you can do. Get a CV together with all relevant work experience detailed and all relevant information about yourself that would help you get a job (eg voluntary work, hobbies that might be relevant).
Then I would phone up all the recruitment agencies in your geographical local area (there are lots of websites that will help you compile a list of recruitment agencies local to you) and ask if they do the sort of work you're looking for. Then arrange to go in and register if they do.
It's also worth looking directly for work. Ask in the local shops/pubs/bars/offices etc (depending on the type of work you're looking for).
Job agency websites are mostly used for specialist/professional jobs. I work for an IT recruitment agency. I could list all the websites our consultants use. But that won't help you unless you're an IT professional!Indecision is the key to flexibility

I've been with 3 or 4 agencies or the last 18 months and like previous posters have said there are good and bad .
