Hi
Can anyone help me with this one. I want to get my other half a hifi system that plays tapes and records for Xmas. I know there are 2nd hand one's on ebay but I am a bit unsure if they will work when they arrive! I have seen a couple on Amazon but not sure if the sound quality is any good.
Any help or guidance greatly appreciated.

Hi I've spotted this one for £69, it seems to get quite good reviews too.
Sorry I can't add link as I'm new but if you check on Very.co.uk for Murphy Midi Hi Fi System

Here's dinoswife's link:

The trouble is, because very few cassettes and records (LPs) are made these days, the equipment to play them is not widely available because there's no money to be made from it. What is about is either ridiculously expensive or cheap and complete kak.
If you want something with a decent sound then you'd be better off going for separates ie an amplifier, cassette player, record player and speakers. All of that though is going to cost an absolute fortune as well as taking up a lot of space.
Richer Sounds have a TEAC mini system which comes with cd and cassette players as well as a record deck but it's £265 including delivery so not cheap.

You could try something like this from Amazon for £110 including delivery but the sound quality won't be anything special.

If you want something cheap but decent quality you'd be best off getting secondhand from Ebay, Gumtree or local newspapers. If you find something you like the look of try asking on AV Forums for advice.

Thanks for that you have obviously taken the time to look around which is much appreciated. I will take a look at the links and hopefully get it ordered this weekend. :T0
