Help/advice needed please

I recently was advised that I had won £1000 kitchen makeover which included £500 of pyrex and a £500 Kenwood Mixer. You can imagine how excited I was :)

When the delivery came the pyrex was there but instead of a £500 Kenwood Mixer there was a food processor worth around £80, now the value difference didn't bother me at the time, I just wanted my mixer. So assuming that they had sent the wrong item I emailed them and was told that they had run out of mixers!!!!

First of all what I want to know is, I think I have seen that promotors can change a prize, but I am pretty sure that it should be changed for one of a similar value???

Has anyone had this happen to them? If so what did they do? I am absolutely gutted that I didn't get my mixer and just want to see if there is anything I can do, I have emailed them again and they have just said that there will be no exchanges.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I've had before that i won a prize and they couldn't give the promised prize. I would politely go back and negotiate with them. You could offer to purchase the mixer from another supplier if they sent the value. Or suggest places where they can purchase one from. It isn't right to not honour what they have advertised as a prize. I would first try to quietly resolve it and then take it to the bods who regulate this sort of this at the ASA.

Sure if they get involved it'll get sorted. But nicer not to have to do that.

A few years ago I won £250 body products but when the package arrived it only contained about £120 of goods (I checked their website as it didn't seem to be £250 worth). I didn't know what to do but sent a polite email pointing it out, they apologised and I got to choose the remaining £130 of goodies from their website.

My win was through a newspaper but the company involved sent the prize. I emailed the newspaper and they sorted it. Is it the same with you, maybe the people promoting the competition are unaware of the mix up.

  • Ms Chocaholic - I have only ever had email from the one person who I believe is from Pyrex - I did a search to find the comp when I first won but the only comp I could find that I entered also included a baking day which there has been no mention of so not sure if it was that one or not. So I have no one else to query the prize with other than the person who sent the original email. I was hoping that by querying the food processor/ mixer and saying I was unhappy I was hopeful that it would be the end of it, but I really want the mixer ( the whole reason I entered the comp in the first place) They have said that they will not exchange ( I assume this means the food processor for the mixer) so I may have to go down the route advised by Helga 14.

Thank you both so much for your responses.

I think this would be regulated by the IPM, not the ASA - you can contact them here http://www.theipm.org.uk/about/contactus.aspx
