Accountants and their married name

Hi MSE,
My fianc!e is a Chartered Accountant and ludicrously claims that she can't use her married name at work due to her certificates issued by the Institute. Surely these can be reissued in her correct legal name (if necessary) or she can simply use it at work.
I'm sure you'll all agree it is disrespectful for her to not fully adopt her married name after the happy day.

Her wider reputation will be in her current name though so may be because of that aswell. If a journalist or scientist where writing papers/ articles where a reputation is built already it may be beneficial to keep your maiden name for work. Although I'll be changing my name I don't think disrespectful is the way to put it. It is her choice but I think you need to talk this through with her properly0

Agree with pbny24. I don't think it's disrespectful at all. If she wants to keep her name for work, proffessionals reasons etc it shouldn't even be an issue.:T0

Is this for real??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!0

Of course it isn't disrespectful, a woman can have what ever name she wants to choose. She could even not have your name at all.
I think you are right Robinred... I don't think this is real....0 -

I know plenty of female chartered accountants trading under their married names having originally qualified in their maiden names. Have to say the OP reads like an impending forced marriage with that level of arrogance before it even happens!Adventure before Dementia!0

I am a chartared accountant, and honestly, I don't know if you can get certificates re-issued or use your married name.
Also - please be aware that there is a variety of different institutes in the UK, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, CIMA, ACCA etc, so therefore the answer may differ depending on which institute.
The name and the institute certificate being different would only really be an issue if they were actually signing off accounts etc, not for everyday work
Have you considered that perhaps your fiance doesn't want to change her name and is using this as a reason?Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0
