I used to buy special repair thread at the habedashery shop for mending tights. It was very fine and came on a card with different colours. Don't they make it any more?

I also used hair to mend tights when I was at school. I had a friend with very long strong toffee coloured hair and as I was good at sewing even back then we used to charge 5p per ladder to mend tights at break time. I remember one of the 6th year standing on a desk while I sewed my way right up the back of her leg, lol.

Best thing though is to carry clear nail polish and to dab a tiny bit on as soon as you snag the material, before it even starts to run. There is no such thing as a truely invisible mend. Best too to stick with 20 denier run resist tights.

I always bought stockings in the same colour from the same manufacturer! That way if you had a couple of pairs they lasted Three times as long! they were Aristoc and the colour was, I believe called barely nude? lovely stockings they were! just the right length - some makes were so long they had to be folded over at the top! then the ruddy things just popped off your suspenders. Or laddered from the top down!
  • I'm pretty certain that there's no law that your company can enforce COMPELLING you to wear stockings . . . unless it's a brothel.

    Simply wear tights, their cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the hair one...I have tailbone length brown hair so that might be worth a try. We don't HAVE to wear stockings at all, but I'm a bit funny about being bare-legged, and they provide some protection against knocks(which, being clumsy, I'm very prone to). The stockings I use are 15 denier...I can't imagine 8 denier, they must be like spiderweb.

try practicing the stitch with 'normal' needle and thread until you feel confident hun! dont waste that lovely hair on practice peices you arent happy with , cos once sewn its difficult if not impossible to remove without damaging the nylons further!
    Good luck!
