Kantar Media - National Buying Survey

Hi all - I did a survey a couple of months ago, receiving £5 (although it took much longer than I thought - it was huge!)
However, now I've had the following e-mail:

NATIONAL BUYING SURVEY – ‘YOUR DIGITAL LIFE’

Thank you for completing the National Buying Survey. We appreciate your time and commitment - and hope you found it an interesting survey.

We would now like you to join the National Buying Survey - 'Your Digital Life' panel. Participation in this exciting study is easy, and in return we will give you a further £40 cash reward. You will also be entered in a prize draw to win £250 at the end of each month you remain a member of the panel*.

What is it about?

People are spending more time online than ever before. Whether for shopping, meeting with friends, playing games, getting the latest news or catching up with TV, the internet has become an important part of modern life.

For websites and online content providers to continue delivering the best online experience, they need to better understand how people use the internet. We help them do this by connecting information on actual website usage with the findings collected in the National Buying Survey.

What will I need to do?

Very little. You will complete an initial 30 minute online survey and then download and install a small piece of software on your computer. This software will collect information on internet and online activity from your computer. The measurement will happen automatically without you having to do anything on a regular basis. It will not affect the speed or any other aspects of your browsing experience.

The information from all members of our panel will be combined, to give an overview of the number of people visiting each website. None of your personal details will be shared with anyone not connected with this study and none of the information we collect will be attributed to you personally. The software will not collect or record personally identifiable information (such as passwords, bank details etc). We take your privacy seriously. We adhere to the Market Research Society Code of Conduct and all relevant data protection legislation.

So, the lure of cash is strong, but is there anything I should be wary of??

So, being a techie duffer, how is the info collected exactly? For example, although not quite in the spirit of things (IYSWIM)if I used my desktop, (which is rarely used nowadays) would only the info/searches used on that machine be collected and therefore the info on the laptop be excluded? Or would the info be provided somehow through the isp? Anyone any ideas (anyone who can explain in techie duffer terms, that is!:))

yes only the machine it is installed on
however there may be terms that say you have to do a certain amount of usage to be eligible for the payment

I do this through Shop and Scan but nowhere near the payment!! All it does is track the sites you go to but does not see what you are actually doing or read passwords etc. HTH

Could you put a link on as others may want to join! thanks

I've taken a look at the T&C - can't find anything that says I need a certain amount of usage, but also can't see anything about how long the installation needs to remain on the computer before receiving payment. I think I may need to ask some pertinent questions:)

It seems to be by invitation only after doing a previous survey (a man called at the house one day & I unusually had 10 minutes spare:) The email I received gives a personal ID ref. to enter & "project number". The company info, however, can be found on http://mykmsurvey.co.uk/about-kantarmedia.html
So it seems you just have to be lucky (or unlucky, whichever way you see it!) to be doorstepped/telesurveyed etc. Sorry!:)
