No make-up?

It's your wedding day, you do what is right for you. From my experience though, I would think about the photos. I work on a magazine and we insist on a make-up artist for formal photos (we're not a fashion mag, but it really does make a difference). We've had photos before where the girl hasn't worn make-up and in my opinion, even the prettiest girls need powder to stop shine, and a bit of lipgloss- I have to do this in photoshop if they're make-up free!
If you're not used to it, I wouldn't go for a full face, just those things, and maybe try some waterproof mascara before hand and see how you get on. The tinted tin of vasaline is good too.
If you did want to try out something more, I'd try mineral make-up as Maysie recommended, you can't feel it on your skin at all.0 -
I think you need something, like hock said, just to finish the look for your photos. You don't need loads of makeup, you can go very natural and subtle. I splashed out on some new foundation, makeup brush and waterproof mascara but didnt go mad. I would recommend you have a couple of practises before hand though and see how you feel wearing it. Like everything on the day, you just need to make sure you feel comfy with it all.0

OP - I don't wear much makeup every day - just light foundation/tinted moisturiser plus mascara, and maybe lipstick/blusher if I can be bothered.

But I am SO wearing makeup on my wedding day! I want my skin to look perfect!!!!! I will be going for the natural look, I have fair skin with a little natural blush to my cheeks, so I want that, but 'perfected' iykwim?
I agree with whoever suggested taking a barefaced photo, followed by one with a little natural makeup on. Post it on here if you're feeling brave!
Let us know what you decide xxx
p.s. I NEVER go outside without mascara on, it makes me look awake
have you never tried it? xxx 7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

I always think on your wedding day you should just look like a 'good' version of YOU. So if you don't wear make up generally, don't wear make up on your wedding day as you'll only feel uncomfortable and you may not like the results on the pictures, with you not looking like usual.
Ditto with hair - if you usually wear your hair up, I wouldn't wear it down and drastically different because you'll only be worrying about it and perhaps a bit self conscious of it.
Only my opinion though!0 -
I agree with everything said above! You may look great bare faced in real life, but it may not come across in the pictures, which are pretty important!
Pixi Beauty in London do a really good tutorial thing, called Pixi Bride I think, where they teach you how to do your own makeup for the day (recommended to me by a friend). If you're doing it yourself, you must, must, must try everything out a few times before the big day. Partly to get used to how great you'll look
and partly so you know for sure what you're doing and don't get panicked on the day. Like someone previously suggested, mineral foundations might be perfect for you (I like Bare Minerals, and Lily Lolo, which is British and cheaper). But can I also suggest BB cream? It's like tinted moisturiser, but better in my opinion. I hate heavy foundation (although I will not be parted from my gel eyeliner!), and I always wear BB cream. Garnier have brought one out, but I prefer Korean ones from ebay. Then a little concealer, some natural peachy blush, brown liner/mascara, and a natural lipstick or gloss. Also a bit of brow powder/pencil can be invaluable for framing the eyes, and make a dramatic difference without looking like you're wearing tonnes of slap.
Good luck! I second the sentiment of seeing the pics!No buying toiletries in November: Unnecessary money spent £0.00/ UUs 9/INs 0

Thank you every one for the masses of advice, I'll defiantly do some before and after shots with a trip to a department store for a free trial, see what happens, as you say I may like the results, and if I do, you may get some photo's as well

I'd never even considered the photographs, so thank you all, sometimes you just need a different viewpoint on a matter.0 -
When my friend was getting ready for her weddin the photogrpaher took a great picture of her with no make up and then with some on. You could barely see it but the difference was incredible. She went from pretty to really beautiful.
Have fun trying makeup and learnign the tricks of the trade!

Another piece of advice I have, from bitter experience... If you're not used to make up, and if you don't really know what you want, beware of telling a make up counter person that. You might get something that is their taste, not yours. If you have a good friend who wears make up and looks good in it, take them along too. Or, better still, let them show you some tips.
I failed to do this with my hair stylist, and the first trial was a complete disaster. Normally I don't style my hair, but I was so vague about what I wanted that she...err...took initiative. It was awful, and I looked nothing like myself. A good friend came to my rescue and was able to articulate what would suit me, and now we've nailed it. If you're not used to make up, enlist someone to help identify what you want and what you don't want
Good tip about the photos - I think I might have some 'just for fun' before and after mug shots done on my wedding day (perhaps by my Mum, rather than the pro photographer though

You'll hate the free trial. For now, I would ask a friend to borrow her make-up bag for the evening and buy some make-up remover wipes.
Do your hair nice and take a photo of you with no make-up.
Put on some mascara and take a photo of you with the mascara. Compare photos - does it look better? Yes or no?
Try out a bit of light foundation, or a tinted moisturiser - take another photo, better or not? If not, take it all off. Try on a bit of powder, or concealor....
And so on. I'm incredibly vain and bought different make-ups to wear on my wedding day and did one half of my face different to the other etc and took photos so I could look at it and decide which was better etc.
Once you get an idea you can go to a make-up counter and advise a bit better about what you like and what look you're going for.
Often the staff working there think they know what's best, will give you a full face so you can "get an idea" if you don't know where to start... But then you can't work out if the lipstick suits you because you think you look ridiculous!0
