Hi,
Does anyone know much about this, and does anyone have it who can givem e a bit of information. Essentially I am going to the doctors on Saturday to ask them to consider this as one of the possible explanations for my current state. I was diagnosed with unspecified arthritus three years ago,and it just seems like they have no idea. From a conversation with a famiyl friend whos a doctor, he suggested this could be the right thing as the symptoms i described matched fibromyalgia

I've had this for 5 or 6 years. I've also got unspecified arthritis, which is now closer to being diagnosed as Rheumatoid.
There are some pretty big differences between fibro and arthritis - mainly that arthritis is very physical, whereas the mental side of fibro is huge too.
I wouldn't push for a diagnosis of fibro, to be honest...I'd just go back and ask for more testing. There is nothing that can be done for fibro, really, and it tends to be the diagnosis given if nothing else 'fits' - you'll find it difficult to be considered for anything else if you end up with this as a diagnosis.
I'm happy to answer any questions or anything

I don't really have anything about fibro information wise but I just got diagnosed with this this morning. They gave me a booklet on it, if I got it scanned in etc would you like me to try pm it or post it on here?

Don't be too keen to accept the dustbin diagnosis of fibromyalgia, which is just a fancy way of saying muscle pain. In fact it is a symptom not a diagnosis and you need to find out what is causing the pain.
Your doctor should work with you to discover this. Don't want to get flamed for giving what might be construed as medical advice, so you need to google, google and then google some more.

Perhaps ask your GP to refer you to a Rheumatologist, rather than the GP guessing.[0

Greetings,
I have been seeing a rhematologist for two years and they've been unable to disagnose me with a specified arthritus. There's no imflamation. I had childhood arthritus when I was 7-8 years old.
Essentially I am at my wits end. The arthritus medication is making me feel ill and doesnt help with the pain, and I am showing many other symptoms0 -
Any other support/information would be most helpful0

when I looked into this in the summer, as I felt so bleurghhh, my doctors told me I might be peri/post or just menopausal. My symptoms, were aching, exhaustion, hip discomfort, poor sleep patterns and a diagnosis of diverticulosis. A friend is a specialist rheumatoid arthritis Nurse thought I had classic symptoms of fybomyalgia, which she felt required treatment with amtryptiline. I looked into both symptoms, which are very similar, and almost impossible to discern between the two. I did see a gynae, he confirmed through my blood tests that I am peri menopausal, but this hasnt made all of the symptoms disappear. I feel less muscle aching now, but still suffer with hip discomfort and have diverticulosis. I have had a very stressful period in my life lately and have coped reasonably well, and not regressed with the muscle problems. I am tired due to poor sleep patterns, but I believe this is due to stress. My Nurse friend also said that fybo responds well to diet and exercise, little by little.
Sorry if this is a bit muddly, but hope it helps0 -

That's quite a controversial thing to say...many with fibro will find that exercise simply makes it worse, rather then offering any improvement.
I've been told many times about this 'cure', and after not finding any medication which particularly helped I tried it (against my rheumatologists advice, I must say).
It didn't have a positive effect. Actually, it just hospitalized me, and I'm not the only one. Most of the big fibro charities are currently campaigning regarding this issue.
I hope you do feel better soon - have you seen a rheumatologist?
Ultimatedingbat, how did the doctors go?0 -
Doctors cancelled the appointment
Exercise seems to help lift my mood sometimes, but others it just makes me feel worse and sickly and well fat 0
