sainsburys meal deals

Beware if you shop online and order a meal deal as I did today..
If they dont stock the items exactly, they will substitute and the discount will not apply.
The meal deal is a fantastic bargain at - 4 mains and 2 sides for £10 but in practice today my bill was £21.65 ! I cant afford that much extra and when I rang their site to ask why, After a lengthy, press button 1 to go to, etc. I was cut off twice . Third time lucky, I tried, I was fuming and thankfully managed to get a discount but only because I was a new shopper with them that day. They said it was not their policy to honour their deal if a product was subbed.....
( is it the shoppers fault that the things are not in stock, because if that is so, it is quite difficult to tell down the broadband )
The policy is very weird because they could say... get all your shopping for £10, sub something and then you would have to pay full.
The more I think about it, the more I think its a con, I will not be shopping with these guys again till they clean there act up..

Tesco are the same if they sub a meal deal item you get charged full price for everything but as soon as you call them they refund the difference as has Sainsburys when its happened to me.

  • I've had the same issue with Asda. Eg, 3 for £10 meat deals - one item subbed for something not on the deal and then I paid full price for all three packets.

I think it is a peril of online supermarket shopping. :(

Having been ripped off in this manner with wine on offer....3 for £12 and ended up paying £29 because they made a sub I started putting in the comments boxes...please susbtitute with something as part of this offer or do not send at all...never had the problem again.

I have worked at larger Sainsburys in the night before and some of the problems lie with the fact the internet shoppers pick your order at 3am - before any deliveries are done. So you may ordered a chicken dish in the starter, main, pudding, side and wine deal and its not in the chiller at 3am. Then at 5am, the fresh delivery comes to the store and you guess it, the chicken dish is on the delivery! Once an internet shopping order is done, they cannot go back and swap the substitute with the chicken dish. Probably because they have already billed you. The latest time I have seen an internet shopper picking up bits is 3pm. Especially this time of year and with big stores, they get deliveries all the time!

I think its a problem for all internet shopping supermarkets.

OP you sure its not in the T&C's re the subs and what happens if you do get a sub in place of part of a meal deal, at least your offered the sub.

What middy described doesnt happen where i work, the chilled delivery probably gets delivered at 9 or 10 and when i start at 6 its the what the shift are working on but any shopper with half a brain would skip to the next item to be picked in the hope that the item they are after is on the delivery and yet to be put out.

Only thing you can do is choose do no sub but then you end up not getting the full meal deal and maybe end up paying more than you would do if you had got teh meal deal.
