Argos Problem - Plasma TV purchse price change DSR's

Options
I purchased a Plasma TV last thursday at £639

it arrived today and was told to check my paperwork

I logged on the website and now the same TV is £539 today - less than a week of purchase and delivery

what can I do

£100 is a lot of money

can I cancel the order under DSR's as the item only arrived today

and then re-order the item?

anyone any ideas if there is anything I can do?

You could return the item and reorder, but thats obviously a great deal of hassle.

But, it might well be the only way you can get the discount - legally you made an offer of that price and Argos accepted, and the fact that they are now accepting lower offers is irrelevant. You might find that they will match the new price and refund the difference through goodwill if you contact them, though.
  • £100 would be worth a little hassle to be fair. :)
  • I ordered it on line
it arrived today - so I am right in thinking I have 7 days from today to return it under DSR's

and then simply order it again for £100 less

£100 is a lot of cash ..... if it was £20 I wouldnt be too bothered

Well Argos pick up returns for free, so nothing to lose there. Bear in mind that Argos sale prices can be short-lived and stock runs out quickly, so unless you can afford to order a second while you're waiting for the first to be refunded there's a risk you end up with no TV. I'd just be honest about why you're returning it when you ring up - if they've got sense they'll save everyone a load of hassle and just give you £100 back.

    Yes, but two points...
    1) you may have to pay for the cost of the return. Check your documentation.
    2) you have up to seven working days (starting with the day after delivery) to notify them that you wish to cancel the order under DSRs. You do not have to return the thing within that time.
  • I did this with Halfords once with a car seat.
    Ordered. Week after 20% sale.

    Called Halfords to return.
I explained why and he said a refund for the difference will be easiest for all parties and thats what he did.
    About £12.
  • I will call them first thing tomorrow morning

I could do without having to return it and re-ordering so I am hoping someone at the other end will be fair

I am happy to accept vouchers .... do you think thats a good idea for leverage?

If they're sensible, they will agree to your requst of a part refund, because this will actually save them money - ie you will not return the TV at their expence (assuming returns are free, as stated above.) The fact that you are willing to accept vouchers will almost certainly make the negotiations easier.

If they won't accept this, then for £100 I think it is well worth ordering again and returning the original.

If the first person you speak to does not have the authority politely ask for their manager.

If they offer to refund you or send you vouchers make sure you get the name and number of the person who dealt with it.
