Solicitors fees

I applied for a £35k mortgage to finish a house-build (house worth £350k). It was refused as I didn't have a 10 yr builders warranty (I wasn't offered one from builder!). Anyway, the Halifax refused but solicitors had started to enter correspondence with them and now have billed me for £125 for a few letters they sent and phone calls they made! Could I be justified in passing the cost back to the Halifax? Not my fault they wouldn't lend....I wanted their mortgage!! I got a personal loan in the end!

simple answer no. they have declined you and did not ask you to get your solicitors to get in touch with them. that was your decision and your choice to risk this0

Always worth speaking to solicitors about their billing if you think it s too much. I did just that and had £200 knocked off a £700 bill! The best things in life are free.....or at least discounted!!!0

I was not the Halifax's fault they wouldn lend to you, its the fault of you/builder for not getting the relevant guarantee's. You will find it hard for anybody to lend on your property until you get the guarantee. Contact the builder ASAP
