Hypothetically speaking...

Options
If a person were to come in to a sum of money, say £15k, and they had debts to the tune of £5.3k credit cards and £4.2k overdrafts, and had a wedding booked, what would you advise them to do with the money? This hypothetical person would no longer have an income themselves, but their partner would, although the one wage wouldn't quite cover all the bills and expenses (about £200 per month short).

  • Pay off all the hypothetical debts, look for a part time job, if possible, to cover the shortfall and make sure the person is saving money wherever the hypothetical person can, cutting out all unnecessaries.

I've just added child benefit and JSA in and there's no shortfall!

Pay off the debts, cheapen the wedding and get a small job. (JSA is short term).

I would also pay the debt, look for a job and down size the wedding.

Do these predicted monthly outgoings with one wage include the current payments to credit cards and overdraft charges?
Definitely an idea to tone down the wedding costs, or put it off just a year, so it can be enjoyed without debt hanging over your head.
