in Cutting tax
I am a PhD student with a studentship of £15000 /year tax free, is it possible for me to work part time and earn an additional income to support my research costs without having to pay tax? Also, if I did work and earned an additional salary of £6000 /year would I get taxed on the total income for that year or only on the £6000?
thanks

students are treated like everyone else tax wise.
you have a tax allowance of 7475 per tax year (6th april to 5th april) which will be offset against earned income
your Phd stipend is not taxed0 -
The £15000 stipend is completely ignored, so if you earned £6000 it should not be taxed at all.0
