The great turnip mystery

Well, it's winter, so it's root vegetable and stew time.
I saw a single tray of turnips on my usual market stall several weeks ago, and that was it. Other greengrocers have had none at all. Morrisons exactly the same. ASDA had a few small ones at a ridiculous price, like they were exotic fruit or something.
I quizzed my man on the veg stall and he told me that he had to throw the tray of turnips away because he couldn't sell them. He never bothered again.
Where have all the turnips gone?

I rarely see turnips at the market & the price in Asda has always put me off trying/buying them. Swedes however are everywhere.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

Most turnips are out of season but swedes are in .0 -
I thought in England turnips were cattle food but swedes were eaten (in stew or as mash) whereas in scotland turnips (neeps?) were eaten? As they are similar I imagine this is just a snob thing.0

This explains it well.

Tesco had some for sale a couple of days ago - they were for sale as single items around 59p each I think.0
