Does building a Buy 2 Let portfolio represent a better investment than other options

I have been looking at property investment schemes where for an outlay of £50,000 to £60,000 companies are looking to build a property portfolio that will provide a high yield. Just wondered if anybody had experience of there performance over the last few years?
Also what are the thoughts on how to best invest this value of investment to maximise returns.

linky?
It sounds like a potential scam, would be good to have a look. Unit trusts based on property are potentially part of a balanced portfolio, but you wouldn't usually have this scale of investment. Also it's very illiquid.0
