catalogue late payment charges

Hi all
I am new to this can you please help ? Can I claim back the late payment fees imposed by my catalogue company, in the same way as my illegal bank charges?

I have looked in the catalogue for any information, and can't find anything to say they charge a late payment fee, the back of the statement also doesn't state anything about late payment charges.

The reason i usually fail to pay on time is that the payment slip is for HSBC bank only, and i find it difficult to locate a clearing bank near to me, by the time i send a cheque off to the catalogue its late clearing hence the fee of £12.00.

Thanks in advance for you useful feedback

yes you can claim back late payment charges from catalogues in the same way as banks or CCs.

but why not address the issue properly:

    a. stop using that catalogue anymore.. in any event i hope you are clearing the entire debt each month as their interest rates are very high indeed.

    b. use internet banking to pay the bills

    c. can you set up a DD for the full amount to save you forgetting.

    d. are you absolutely sure the paying in slip is for HSBC bank only...why do you say that.

    e. or if you do it by post just do it earlier.

if you are not careful you are likely to have your credit rating adversely affected for consistant late payments.

normally there is no charge if you pay in a branch of your own bank with a cheque

You can claim back but the reason the fee is £12 is because that was what the OFT said was a reasonable late payment fee. If it used to be £30 or whatever then go for it however, that's clearly a penalty.
