previous tenant using my address to gain credit, is this fraud

Options
This woman left a trail of debt behind her and I thought all had been dealt with but she has started using my address again on 3 separate occasions last year.

it seems equifax and experian have it on record that she is resident at my address and I am again receiving demands for payment.

I know I am not liable for her debts but I would like to contact the police, is this fraud?

she left my house in a poor condition and stole shrubs etc from the garden.

  • yes it is fraud.

If she is obtaining credit by using a false address then its fraud. however I doubt you would get any compensation or anything unless you have been forced to pay her debts.

If you get phine calls from the creditors inform them also contact the police.

Yes its fraud if she is using a false address for new applications. You could contact the police, but its unlikely they'll do anything.

Did you fill in your electoral roll form this year (a couple of months or so ago) and state that you were the only person living at the address? If so then once her credit file is updated to show she is not on the e/r at your address thats likely to make it more difficult for her to get more credit at your address in the future.

Consider checking your credit records (there should be no trouble but just check).

Also consider talking to CIFAS and see whether they can place a warning that stops her gettign credit at your address.

  • just contacted the police who are interested but not sure what they will do.

this person left my address 2 years ago and last year I contacted the local authority to register that she did not live here any more so I dont know how she mas managed more debt.
dates for new debt from the debt collectorswere oct 2010, apr 2011, aug 2011.

police have warned to watch for any theft of my details to obtain credit.
they warned to check my bank account, so I am about to contact them and place a warning on it

  • This is why we should allow creditors/debt collectors etc full access to E.Roll and Tax records and why occupiers instead of moaning should ALWAYS co-operate with in tracking down defaulters if we can.

The problem is that those chasing scumbags like this have no chance of finding them. We, the innocents, then have to deal with letters/visits/credit bureaux data etc etc.

Grass em up, (where possible). I do.

  • written to credit ref agencies, sorted the bank and had this recorded on gov websites for fraud prevention and recording.

    nothing more to do now.

when I moved here and the debt collectors letters were coming by the bucket load I contacted all of them by email and supplied the forwarding address of the person they were looking for.
I also put a note in my front door window stating to whom it may concern and providing their address.
