Local Carnival Float

Calling all you creative minds on MSE.

I am a Brown Owl of a Brownie Pack and we want to enter a float in our local carnival this year.

It is the 50th anniversary of the towns carnival so the theme is "golden oldies or 50 or gold"

So my question is - does anyone have a fantastic inockout idea for a theme for a curtainsided lorry that we can use?

i used to be a carnival princess when I was younger and my mum used to design and decorate carnival floats and cars. She used to use sheets of plastic (like plastic bags) or crepe paper. She'd cut the paper into strips then roll the strips to look like flowers - secure them and make thousands.

then she'd cut out car - panel shaped pieces of heavy duty plastic and stick on all the 'flowers', then she'd fix the panels onto the car so it looked like the car was covered in these 'flowers'

The effect was amazing and it's a pity I've no photos on my pc to show you, but if you need any more info, PM me.... :0)

if its golden oldies why dont you go rock n roll or take themes from each 10 years and mark with a special occasion that has happened/lots of gold stars streamers/papier mache models

  • I'm sure i'll think of more constructive things tomorrow but how about the Oscar's. The girls can all wear their 'hollywood' party dresses and do oscar shaped cut outs sprayed gold, etc (used oscar cutouts in this way for an oscar themed party aat a 5 star hotel i worked at so it can work well)

Stiff net the kind used for ballet dresses is a great fabric to decorate lorries with a staple gun. Probably good for dressing brownies too. Saw a float in the new Year parade in London with a lot of creative use for carrier bags, all different colours again with a staple gun. Bin bags and swing bin liners can be good too!!!!
