Gym - better offers now or in new year?

I'm looking to join a gym soon and my thinking is that as loads of people traditionally sign up after new year, maybe I should sign up now? Would I be right? Do they take away the best offers in January? Or do they put out better offers in January to make the most of all the newly interested people? I'm thinking specifically LA Fitness.

  • i walked past one today (and i honestly couldn't tell you which one!) which had an offer of something like sign up for next year, get the rest of this year free. it's worth looking around now to see what facilities they have anyway. plus january is always so busy so getting an induction can be a real pain.

Wait until the third week of any month IMO, better offers from managers/sales staff as they try to match their requirements BUT not all need new members (some have met their requirements already) so keep asking at different gyms-even within the same chain if more then one is near to you just incase a different gym has a better offer.

I tend to see very slightly better offers in January but they are not so easy to find, January everyone seems to want to get fit and gyms just don't try very hard. Set an allowance for what you can afford and speak to the gym people, say the max you have when they give you a monthly price and see if you can come to a decent price, this is less likely to be possilble in January/Feb/March.
