Hey guys,

I've been a lurker for a while but have finally decided to jump in and post. Just wanted to say that you're all fantastically inspiring. Had my lightbulb moment in October when moving house and buying all those bits and pieces meant my credit card jumped to the highest it's ever been combined with a month between leaving one job and starting another meant I used my overdraft to pay my rent. Realised it was silly to be in so much debt when I have no real need to be (I have a decent job and other than a laptop and a TV, can't pin the debt on anything in particular other than general spending).

So, no more Pret sandwiches for me, more carefully planned food shopping and no buying more books/DVDs until all of my current ones are read/watched.

Trying to be very good and you're all inspiring me. Although it's going to be difficult with Christmas and my boyfriend's birthday in December. I've made a start though, I've used my clubcard vouchers to get my mum a magazine subscription for part of her Christmas present and I've started swagging (nearly at a £5 Amazon voucher after joining on 20th) which should hopefully subsidise some of the giving.

Just need to keep going and realistically I can be debt free by Christmas 2013, although August 2013 would be much much better.

  • Hi,

You should keep a spending diary, as this will allow you see where you are spending and highlight areas where you can cut down.
  • Please don't think me stupid but... What is swagging please?

I've dubbed my activities on the site as swagging but it's a site I found via the Make £10 a Day thread, you do various things to earn points and you can then redeem them for an Amazon voucher.

I don't know if I can mention it, I know the site is a bit weird about stuff like that, I don't want to get deleted before I start but the referrals board has a thread on it.
  • Welcome to the site!

I'm not on here very often tbh but I find this site so helpful & it is nice to know that you are not the only one in debt for well nothing basically!

I am the same as you just general spending has got me to where I am at the moment & I am hoping to be debt free by March 2013 & I am soooooooooo excited about it!!

Good luck on your journey & hopefully one day around the same time as each other we can be debt free & PROUD!
