Wonga.com - Mistake on application

Hi
I was wondering if anyone had experienced a similar scenario to myself when using Wonga.com. I recently lost my bank card so needed to update my details on Wonga.com when applying for a £100 loan. Once I had filled it in I got all the confirmation emails saying the money is coming your way. I checked my account and after 6 hours there was nothing there. I went back to check my details and low and behold my account number was wrong. I had accidentally typed the first 8 digits of the long 16 digit number on the card. I phoned to say there is a mistake and they said all I can do is hope it comes back as a bounced payment and that I may have just made someones Christmas! I have a lot of personal pressures of late so this has caused me to not think as straight. I feel quite annoyed there was no 'double check' your details box with regards to the account money goes into before it is finalised. Im not looking for sympathy and i will probably have to learn from it but I just want to know if I am alone in having experienced this and wondered that as my sort code was correct if that sort code is unique to me?

No and no - sorry.
If the account does not exist it will bounce back to Wonga eventually although who will be responsible for the interest in the meantime is an interesting question!
If the account number is live then the money will go into it and you reliant on them being honest and repaying it.0 -
You only had to type in 8 numbers. Its not the Krypton Factor.Brendan235 wrote: »I feel quite annoyed there was no 'double check' your details box with regards to the account money goes into before it is finalised.
You've done yourself a favour. Cut back for a few weeks, save your money. You'll be glad this happened if you do that.Brendan235 wrote:Im not looking for sympathy
Your sort code denotes what branch you opened your account at, that's all. Everyone at that branch will have the same sort code.Brendan235 wrote:(I) wondered that as my sort code was correct if that sort code is unique to me?
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I can afford to repay on Wednesday (Thats the due date) anyway so hopefully interest etc shouldn't matter. The debit card that the payment is coming from has the correct details. Its just the accont it goes into

If you know the account number that you entered take it into your branch (and only your branch - the one that relates to your sort code) and ask for help. They may contact the account holder for you.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I've (thankfully) never used these type of companies so I'm not an expert but I agree with RichGold here. Speak to your branch and admit the mistake, they could advise if it was deposited into an account or stored into a 'holding' account for you.
Good luck0 -
The chances of it coming back are almost 100%.0

So, out of interest, if this random number IS an actual bank account and that person receives a payment from Wonga that they haven't asked for, they will presumably get Wonga trying to take back the amount plus interest in a month's time?! I'd be gutted if that was me!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Have you just your lost your bank card? Or is the account that you have closed? I assume if you have just lost your bank card then any funds requested will still go to your bank ACCOUNT rather than on the card..
Or am i not reading the post right?

Nah that wouldnt happen, Wonga use the debit card details to take payment, not the bank account number.0 -
The chances of the account number being real AND from the same bank (sort code) as yours are about the same as the Queen of England abdicating for Charles. You'll get your cash back.0
