Hi all

My boyfriend just got a letter from above debt collector fora mobile hedidnt take out. He called them and they told him when it was and the nmber. It was his ex. it was taken out april 2009 and the debt is nearly £600.

Now what should he do? Obviouslywe cant pay it, but how do we tell them and prove that itwasnt him, also will she find out he told them as they have children together and in the past she has used them against him.

Any help greatly appreciated. Sorry for typos on my phone!

    Hi

Was he with his ex in April 2009? Was he aware she had taken out an account in his name? Did he give permission?
How did he find out it was his ex? because he knows her phone number and they told him the phone number attached to the account?

Hi. Yes he was with her but they split up a little while later. He wasnt aware she had taken it out in his name, bu this is not the first time something like this has happened. Debt collectors gave hm the number related to the deb and he has saved every number she has had, and guess what, one was a match!

He could write to say he had never taken out that account and has no knowledge of the debt. But before they'll look into the fraud aspect they often require the person to have contacted the police first and reported the fraud.

Has the account and the debt been sat on his credit file for the last 2 years? had he never noticed it?
