Cheapest way to get to Mull from the mainlaind

Oban to Craignure and Lochaline to Fishnish are both significantly more expensive crossings than Kilchoan to Tobermory in my experience (although you do have to add the drive along Ardnamurchan to the mix and optionally the Corran Ferry).
Other than that I've never seen a discount CalMac to MullThere are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Calmac have the monopoly and will always fleece you imo. Going as a foot passenger is cheap but the bus is quite expensive if you are going to Tobermory. Think it works out a little cheaper though. Just had to fork out %50 odd quid to go over for a funeral a wee while ago. We often go as foot passenger and just stay around Craignure, get the litttle train up to Torosay castle for lunch.0

the cheapest route with a car would be from Lochaline to Fishnish . It is only a 20 min (approx) sail, but you would have to drive way round Morvern peninsula to get to lochaline . If driving from south of fort william you would take the Corran ferry also , to cut down the miles. this is a 10 min sail approx. Petrol has to be taken into account though, as this is quite a round trip. It all dpeneds on where you are starting your journey from . Personally, i would take the early sailing and you get an 'early bird' ticket which is cheaper. Or why not leave the car and catch the bus at Craignure? there are regular buses that eet the ferries that go to Iona and tobermory.

The easiest and cheapest way to get to Mull is Lochaline/Fishnish-no booking required and it's a reasonably sized vessel. The Kilchoan/Tobermory route isn't as well served and is a much smaller ferry, plus a long drive round. I'm afraid there is no cheap way to get to any of the islands in Scotland due to Calmac's stranglehold on the ferry routes. No competition you see-so they basically can get away with fleecing us all!0 -
The ferry pricing is such that the tourists are fleeced and charged a small fortune. The locals however can purchase multiple tickets in one go and get a reasonable price for this. So my advice would be to find someone you know in Oban or Mull that uses the ferry quite often and blag a few tickets. Alternatively, do the same as the locals and try flogging the rest of the tickets. The trip might just pay for itself.0
