Rotting back lawn

We have a back lawn that gets very little sun, our neighbour has just removed about 20 trees along the fence line and the garden now is so water logged it looks like it is actually rotting! We have clay soil and I do think the tree roots must have been good for drainage as it has suddenly got so much worse.
Any solutions that don't cost a fortune? My brainy idea was to 'fork' the lawn but my better half thinks I'm nuts! :rotfl:

Our lawn is the same, it's like a swamp in the wet weather. Nightmare!! I wanted drains in but it made little difference0

I'd be tempted to 'fork it' and lay a patio :rotfl:
Sorry just kidding. What about adding lawn drainage. I know someone mentioned to me before about digging a ruddy great big hole in the middle of the lawn then filling said hole with small stones/gravel to allow water to drain away. Obviously you re-cover the hole with turf so no-one would ever know.
Google lawn drainage and see if there's anything you'd be willing to try a bit of DIY on.0 -
My garden is the same...Its equivalent to the pub with no beer...its the garden with no grass.
I have 2 rows of hedges running up the length of it and when they grow together there is no light getting into the garden.
Tried digging it up one time and planted grass seeds .They grew a bit but with the snow last year it killed off any grass there was.
During the summer it was like the day of the triffids out there...looked scarey as the whole garden was taken over by 3/4 foot high thistles.A kindly neighbour chopped these down for me but now i have a garden full of dandelions ready to flower and still no grass.
I was thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to get the weeds etc treated and then get a new turf lawn laid to give it a head start. Was also considering either laying down stones or even astro-turf...I doubt if the astro-turf would be ideal as i have 2 dogs so it would probably get ruined.
Plus i was thinking of getting someone to dig out the hedge on my side to help with the light.Cant touch the other side as its my neighbour's.
The problem is i have a steadfast old fashioned landlord who wont probably allow me to do any of the above..especially remove the hedge or even put stones down.
I can but dream..just a pity the garden is going to ruin and is of no interest to anyone.0 -
I had a similar problem, i dug a big hole at the lowest point put in a load of sand and filled it with gravel. Returfed it and it hasnt flooded since.0

I have a similar problem here in Newtownabbey... The houses are built on a natural slope and our neighbour has paved his entire back lawn and made it into a patio. Now there is excessive water flooding into our garden and the lawn is permanently water logged. Does anyone know of anyone in Belfast/Newtownabbey areas who would have a look at this for us and possibly suggest a solution ?
Thanks !0
