Hello, does anyone know if it is possible to get a bank account and a debit card anywhere for discharged bankrupts.I was discharged in September 2006, and have a basic account with a cashcard at Nationwide.I have asked them to upgrade my cashcard to a debit card, but they keep saying "come back in a couple of months and try again".Has anyone who has been discharged from their bankruptcy been able to get such an account ?.

Hi
Just quick reply cos I off to bed with bad migraine! but I have been discharged for 5 yrs now and I still can't get upgraded (been with lloyds since my BR in 2002) they just say till it goes off your credit record nothing can do. I know its different bank but just thought Id give my example. I know some people did get given debit/electron cards or got to keep them.

Or just search the forum for Citibank.10 1p's are better than no 10p's !!!

This is the latest list of Basic Bank Accounts as of September 2006 from:
http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf
Unfortunately for undischarged bankrupts, there are still only the three accounts available:
Barclays Cash Card Account.
Co-operative Bank Cashminder.
Nationwide Building Society Flex Cash Card
And still only the Co-op has a Debit Card, the Electron.0 -
We have a basic Cashmaster account with the Clydesdale and it now comes with the Maestro function
They recently changed this account to this
We are undischarged BR and I also know of someone who was BR recently and he opened an account with them and they knew of his BR
