Hi There

Was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on my problem, this is a long post sorry for ranting on don't know how to explain it any other way.

A couple of weeks ago my adviser was going to send me to a presentation talk very far from where I lived in another job centre I'm qualified in childcare and it was to see a childcare expert to talk about how to get qualifications in that field etc she sent me because she thought I could do networking to find jobs, now I had know clue where this place was and when I called up the chap at the other job centre to find out how far the train station from the job centre he inquired where I was coming from and I told him where and why I was being sent to the talk, the guy didn't understand why I was being sent all the way over to another borough for a talk he said was for the people in that town and and especially as it was for people looking to become qualified in child care he said he thought it was pointless in me going for a hour when it wouldn't be any use to me now I was confused at what to do

so he said I should speak to my adviser and see what she says any way after lots of trying to get through to her I finally did she didn't sound happy and was borderline rude now I've always found her nice and helpful and this was the first time I ever heard her speak to me in this way she said the reason that I was going was to look for work and she ranted on now I was only trying to find out if I should go or not but she said she would have to speak to the guy at the other job centre to find out if I was telling the truth or not and she would get back to me,

a day past and I never heard anything so I called up to find out if she had spoke to the guy as it turned out she wasn't in fortunately another more polite and helpful woman sorted it out for me and spoke to the guy and I didn't have to go in the end and she explained this on my file and she said I wouldn't have my money stopped I thought that was the end of it I didn't have to sign on for another week and had to see another adviser as my one was booked up.

fast forward a couple of days I received a letter through the post from the Job centre saying I had failed to apply for a training opportunity given to me by my Adviser for work experience and that I need to explain why I had failed to apply with good reason and if i didn't my money will be sanctioned now this got me even more stressed out and paranoid that my adviser had done this on purpose because of the incident from above, she had given me the print out for this opportunity on the 19th sept and the cut of date for cv to be sent in was the 16th of sept but she said send it in anyway and see what happens so I applied by post but never heard anything back and forgot all about it, stressing out and thinking she might of done this on purpose

I spoke to somebody at the JC who I thought was just a supervisor but turned out to be someone from complains she was really nice and help me calm down and she said that on their computer they had a cut off date of the 23rd of sept while the one I had on my print out said the 16th this as it turned out should be enough proof I needed that should stop my money being sanction, she spoke to my adviser and said that there was know come back and that I had been place with a new adviser anyway so that fuel my paranoia even more that my old adviser had moved me to someone else when I was only suppose to see this other lady once.

I have to take all the paper work in tomorrow as its my signing on date but I'm stressing out so much that they will come up with any excuse to stop my jsa and dreading see my old adviser just encase they had a word with her I know it sounds stupid people have told me that I should be more assertive and don't let them talk down to me but I not had any problems with the staff until now, has anybody else had similar incidents with staff at the JC?

  • They're not the easiest bunch to get along with. Years ago they refused me JSA saying I'd not got enough credits. Fair enough, I knew I had but I couldn't be bothered to fight them. Rand the HMRC to find out why my past years credits were missing. They told me to ring the JC. So.. I rang them.. they told me I had NO NI credits for the past 8, yes EIGHT years (odd considering I'd had contribution based JSA in the past). She found them.. hiding somewhere waiting to be manually approved. Turns out my national insurance number was a restricted account still (i know why but thats a different story) and so my NI contributions were not automatically cleared. I got a letter 3 days later telling me I qualified.

My point? - They make mistakes. Big mistakes. Even when you think they haven't they sometimes have. Don't let it get to you just soldier on and keep a diary of everything.

Do you have the days, times and names of the people who you spoke to?

I had it when the HMRC had the contributions but JC's records (and DWP's) were corrupted... cue me providing proof of my payslips for the third time in three years. (I'd had to do it previously to get my contributions sorted out as they'd put 06-07's and 07-08's in one year leaving me with a blank year so I was told I possibly wouldn't qualify for state pension.)

Thanks for the replies my new advisor was okay a bit distracted and didn't know what I was talking about at first she referred me to the mandatory work activity scheme not sure if that's a good or bad thing atm, I took my appeal letter with evidence to my signing on day for her to look at she just asked me to fill it out and handed it to a colleague of her for them to send it up to who ever deals with it so hopefully it will get sorted but knowing my luck they will loose it so just a waiting game and until I get a response.
